General Purpose
The Materials Manager is responsible for the availability of materials for manufacturing, inventory control, purchasing and the shipping of finished products. The role encompasses: supplier management, materials planning, procurement of inventory, consumables and capital, incoming test and inspection, materials and finished goods stores, and shipping.
Essential Functions
- This person is required to establish systems and procedures for materials management and responsibility for functions of use of the Oracle ERP system.
- Materials planning
- Plan materials requirements based on orders and forecast from PLM
- Set up safety stocks and order cover with scheduled deliveries for all critical components
- Supplier management
- Provide clarity of and definition of requirements for suppliers.
- Ensure materials are purchased against the correct specification.
- Work with suppliers and Optium engineers to develop specifications for low cost and ease of manufacture
- For all critical components establish a principal supplier and a second supplier
- Implement supply agreements for key materials
- Migrate to low cost suppliers where possible
- Drive program for outsourcing of assemblies
- Evaluate suppliers and negotiate on cost, delivery and quality
- Participate in regular, formal liaison with other procurement staff and customers to ensure pro-active purchasing.
- Adhere to the Quality Standards as prescribed by ISO 9001 and TQM principles
- Report on KPI’s for measurement of performance of suppliers.
- Perform supplier audits and ensure effective supplier selection
- Materials receipt
- Implement incoming materials procedures including Quality acceptance testing
- Ensure batch or serial traceability with effective linking of suppliers and incoming test data.
- Provide fast and accurate feedback to suppliers on materials issues and rejects.
- Inventory control
- Maintain accurate records of stock level and material use in Oracle
- Ensure materials tractability is maintained with clear identification of materials.
- Production planning
- Maintain the manufacturing plan
- Create work orders and schedule jobs
- Shipping
- Manage the shipping process and documentation.
- Experience of Oracle manufacturing, and purchasing modules
- Knowledge of experience with the use of part numbering, revision, batch and serial number systems.
Qualifications
- The right to work in Australia
- BPICS accredited training in material controls or purchasing or equivalent formal training.
- Degree level in a mechanical or electrical engineering discipline.
- More than 3 years experience of materials management in a manufacturing environment using ERP systems.
- Knowledge of and experience with the use of part numbering, revision, batch, and serial number systems.
- Understanding of material flow systems such as JIT, Kanban, etc.
- User experience of Oracle or SAP purchasing and finance modules
- Computer literacy in Excel or MS applications
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in sourcing products from International Suppliers.
