Senior Mechanical Engineer

It is proposed to form a dedicated team of individuals consisting of a process engineer, software engineer and mechanical engineer whose sole function will be to improve and maintain the Alignment Rig design. This will be achieved by:

• Improving the general engineering of the existing rigs in order to achieve an improved up-time
• Implementing automation on existing rigs in order to increase throughput and yield whilst reducing the training time for new operators.
• Developing new rigs and fixtures for new product designs (eg 50GHz, OCM etc)
• Developing new alignment processes and alignment rigs as part of a wider program of Design for Manufacture for the DWP product line.

• Responsible for the design and development of the mechanical, automation and motion control systems for the Alignment Rig which is used in the alignment of WSS Optical Assemblies
• Development of detailed, dimensioned mechanical drawings for purchasing of rig parts and subassemblies

• Demonstrated ability to design high precision, automated assembly machines with at least 3 years industrial experience.
• An understanding of materials used in high precision optical assemblies such as epoxies and adhesives, ceramics, low expansion metals and optical materials
• Understanding of precision motion control systems, pneumatics or vision systems preferred
• Demonstrated ability to provide innovative solutions to complex mechanical tasks.
• B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.
• Ability to use 3-D CAD packages with a preference for Pro-Engineering
• Capable of working as part of a small team
